An Overlooked Decor For Your Kitchen: Dressers
We all know what bedroom dressers are, but what about kitchen dressers? Whether or not you have ever heard of it, it is something you may want to think about picking up. If you’re in the market for one, the tips below can help you choose a dresser that fits perfectly into your home.
1. A dresser by any other name…
Although this won’t impact the functionality of kitchen dressers, it will certainly help you to appreciate them more. Kitchen dressers also have several other names, including “China Hutch” and “Welsh Dresser.” Basically, it’s a piece of wooden furniture. The top portion of kitchen dressers includes shelves. Meanwhile, cupboards and drawers are located in their lower section. This is also referred to as the “sideboard.”
2. Carefully sand and paint kitchen dressers
It’s best to sand and paint your dresser outside, since this will involve a significant amount of mess as well as paint fumes. Before you paint the dresser, you’ll want to sand it carefully in order to ensure that the paint will stick to the dresser. As far as your choice of paint color goes, try to choose a color which matches or complements your kitchen’s existing color scheme. Though you don’t have to exactly match the kitchen paint color, it’s a good idea to base your colors off of your kitchen colors.
3. Choose your wood
Some of the most common options are Oak, Pine, and Ash. Each of these wood varieties has a unique appearance and texture, so consider each of them carefully before making your selection. Another consideration is the maintenance of each wood type. Some wood types are easier to care for than others are. So if your schedule is fuller than beaches during summertime, then choose a wood variety that’s a cinch to maintain.
4. Know the function of kitchen dressers
Kitchen dressers are designed for a specific set of uses, much like kitchen wall tile designs. Many people choose to use their kitchen dressers to store and display their flatware and silverware, though they may also be used as a way to showcase purely decorative items. In the past, kitchen dressers have been put to use for other purposes, including cooling baked items and other culinary uses.
5. Choose a particular style
One thing you’ll find is that there are a great many different styles of kitchen dresser out there. Among the more popular are Welsh, Mexican and Indian-style, though there are many other styles to choose from, both traditional and contemporary. Again, you may want to choose a style based on your kitchen décor, though this is strictly a matter of personal preference, so feel free to try something new if you like.
While you might not use kitchen dressers to cool a pie or for other cooking related tasks, they are still a very useful and attractive addition to any kitchen. Keep the tips above in mind and you’ll be sure to find the right dresser for you and your kitchen.
