A Sleigh Bed Is Synonymous With Royalty
Sleigh beds are called by that name because of their similarity to sleighs. The curved foot board and headboard make it appear like the snow sleigh. Most of the time, this bed is made of wooden construction materials. The huge boards make it weigh a lot more compared to other beds. It will also require a huge amount of space. This furniture became a fad during the French and American period of 1800s. The American period was dominated by Victoria style which is reminiscent of this bed.
The very first wood utilized for the bed was mahogany. The design was a reflection of Emperor Napoleon French court. The elegance that the bed exudes makes it the best enhancement for the room. The style of bed was reminiscent of the antique materials used in Europe. These materials fashioned after the Empire style were incorporated into the design.
This bed reflects a lot of quality. Having a free hand on styling the bed is one advantage. The soaring demand for this specific bed is due to the continued advertisements in TV and magazines. The furnishing utilizes various materials in building it. Wood though is often the preferred material. However it is not the only choice available.
These days, companies make use of steel, aluminum, iron and of course wood similar to that of a loft bed. These materials will form the curved style which is the beds distinguishing mark. Leather is utilized in some designs. Leather is mainly used though in the cushions and upholstery of bed as the frames are still made of wood.
The design for headboard sometimes do not come with the fashionable curves that a sleigh bed is known for. Some beds have higher headboards and lower foot boards. The curve design though is still very popular even to this day.
Regarding the sizes, one can choose from a number of options. The sizes begins with the smallest which is the twin size. This size measures 39 inches wide. It is suitable for one person. A bigger size than twin would be the full size. Full size beds have 54 inches width. Then queen size comes next with 60 inches width. Finally, a king sleigh bed which measures 76 inches wide.
It has been a long way since then when this fixture first came out. But its popularity continue to soars even to this day. A large part of its continued demand is it is both convenience and luxury all rolled into one.
