Animal Art From The Animalier’s Point Of View

Nowadays, the prized art of many homes is actually doggie art, featuring works of the Masters or simply photo mugs of pet pooches. There are two women, mother and daughter from Memphis, Tennessee, who paid a renowned pastel artist to draw four of their dogs. Though two have already been mourned, they are remembered in these tasteful family portraits. If you want to make it home alive, do not admit that you think one dog looks just like the next. The two dogs who stayed behind, Kelly Rae, a cockapoo puppy, and Miss Manners, a Lhasa apso, were portrayed as a couple last year. While Kelly is curious and friendly, Miss Manners can be standoffish. That covers the long and the short of it. Apparently, those who play in the big leagues of art can see it too.

Four fold has the value of quality pet portraits increased since ten years ago, according to a 19th century animal art expert and owner of a Manhattan gallery. His record is a painting of a Newfoundland named Neptune that was auctioned for $577,000. At the same time, a Frenchman who lives on Long Island and a leading animalier of this century, commands as much as $250,000 for a single beastly profile for his paintings.

Anyone decorating in Victorian fashion, as more and more were doing, had to include animal art. Any animals, from pets to farm animals, could be the subject of an English painting, serving for both personal pleasure and advertising opportunities. Rooms are given an inviting feel once an animal painting is added. To read other paintings articles make sure to visit oil painting replicas.

Although she deals in the high end of the business, she doesn’t snub doting pet owners who commission their own portraits from local artists. The whole country is involved in getting pets painted and she thinks its serious art. Older portraits may not resemble descendants of the same breed, and in these cases the owner should commission a new painting. The first layer in the painting is taken from a pet’s photo, and the second layer involves instructions from the pet owner. All that had to be added was a sparkle to two shaggy dogs’ eyes to please a client of a water colorist from Germantown, Tennessee, who specializes in landscapes. She has also had easy to please clients, one of which was delighted with a five pose portrait of his deceased dachshund.

Painting houses and dogs for the past 13 years has made another watercolor painter from Eads, Tennessee, rather prosperous. Dogs and horses are her main jobs, but she has also been asked to paint cats, fish, and a frog. When the client sees the portrait for the first time, his face gives away his reaction, especially when the painting is of a dead pet. They become wistful or teary eyed.
