How do I clean embossed metal on an antique trunk?
I have a beautiful embossed metal trunk from late 1800′s. It isn’t worth a ton, but I think it is wonderful! The paint is actually in decent condition, and there isn’t a rust problem, but some of the white/cream colored part is dirty/discolored. Does anyone know a good way to CLEAN the metal without damaging the paint job or a good product to use?
It kind of depends on what the dirt IS and just what the white/cream part is painted with. If it is just dirt on enamel paint, a sponge and water would be a good start. If it is MORE than that you might want to consult a local expert.
