However, there is hope for all you antique lovers, here are some simple suggestions on how you can pick a genuine antique that your even your children and grandchildren will be proud to own someday.
Tell tale signs of usage are probably the most conspicuous factor that point to the genuineness of the antique. Carefully analyze the table for nicks, cracked wood and other defects that bespeak of its age. Do not let the store owner sell you the story about a well cared for table because even the sturdiest and most meticulously maintained pieces will never have the perfection that is so readily available in new furniture items. As a matter of fact, it would be safe to suggest that the anomalies and signs of aging is what make antique tables truly charming.
Examine the boards used in the construction of the table meticulously; some of the boards will be irregular as they have been hand cut since there were no machines used in the making of these antique creations. However, the irregularities may not be conspicuous to an untrained eye.

An antique dealer will be able to offer you accurate information on the authenticity of an antique table that is being purchased from a previous owner, so get the expert to examine the table in person or at least take back a few photographs that will give him/her a fair idea about what the table looks like.
