Indianapolis Colts Receiver Austin Collie Keeps Hush Hush
Colts receiver Austin Collie does not want to speak about the vicious hit that have him a concussion. He just would like to get well enough to compete.
In a written statement given via a squad spokesman Thursday, Collie said thank you to devotees for their thoughts and prayers and acknowledged he is starting to feel better. His letter stated:
“I understand everyone’s concern, but I prefer not to discuss the specifics of the play in Philadelphia. I hope that can be respected,” Collie claimed. “It was a football play. And that’s part of football. Now I want to focus my efforts on continuing the gradual process of getting back on the field and helping our team.”
Collie has not spoken with reporters since the frightening scene Nov 7. Moments following getting a hold of a pass from Peyton Manning, Collie whirled to run up the field and was sandwiched between 2 Eagles defenders. Kurt Coleman made an unintentional helmet-to-helmet strike on Collie, who dropped to the turf with his arms stiff.
Following approximately ten minutes, he was placed on a backboard and brought to the locker room on a stretcher. At halftime of the match, Colts President Bill Polian said Collie was aware and sitting upright. The Eagles were penalized 15 yards for striking a defenseless receiver. The pro football league, who has been passing down bigger penalties and threatening to suspend players for threatening hits, didn’t levy any further sanctions.
Polian and Indy’s defensive competitors have said they didn’t think Coleman’s hit was intentional and that he shouldn’t be fined.
The concussion forced Collie to miss all 3 practices last week and the Colts held him out of Sunday’s competition vs Cincinnati, too. The Indianapolis Colts (6-3) took Monday and Tuesday off, as they usually do after wins in November and December, and then on Wednesday, Collie did minimal work at practice for the first time since the injury. The Indianapolis Colts did not eliminate Collie for Sunday’s match at New England. He started for less than a half, though was pulled out soon after quite a few physical plays.
Whereas Collie went back to work Wednesday, 4-time Pro Bowl receiver Reggie Wayne was benched with a knee injury. He made it a full practice Thursday. Wayne has started 112 sequential regular season competitions and competed in last year’s Super Bowl in spite of injuring his knee in practice that week.
Middle linebacker Gary Brackett (turf toe), tight end Brody Eldridge (ribs), running back Mike Hart (sprained ankle), linebacker Clint Session (dislocated right elbow) and cornerback Justin Tyron (foot) haven’t practiced this week and might not play at Patriots.
Running back Joseph Addai did restricted work for the first since damaging his left shoulder at Washington on Oct 17, and receiver Blair White (shoulder) was a total participant following doing restricted work Wednesday.
