Making A Home Office Attractive And Functional
A home office is no longer just a place for working while you are at home. Home offices now have much more style and character than just plain office desks and chairs. Modern touches and color as well as some functional items can turn your office into a place where you want to spend your time. Try these few tips to spruce up your work space.
Instead of your typical office computer desks, one that is clunky and unattractive, buy modern but simple office desks. A glass desk with shelves is a great way to open up the room, be functional, and look attractive. Office desks should be large enough to hold your office supplies and computer but not too big that it overpowers the room. Office desks should not be the focal point of the room, just a design element.
Next, find a chair to match the modern style of your office computer desks. Test it to make sure you can move around your desk easily. The chair should look nice and match the style of both the room and the desk but it should also be comfortable; you could be sitting at your office computer desks for hours. The chair color should be neutral, black or brown would blend easily with the room and allow you to use your color palette in other areas of the room.
Place an interesting hanging one or two magazine racks next to your desk, a decorative wrought iron one would be an excellent choice. Magazine racks are a great place to store important papers that you need quickly without relying on an ugly file folder.
Although you will spend the majority of your time at your desk, purchase an accent chair and ottoman. Place them in the corner of the office and add a small table near them to create a reading nook. The chair and ottoman will give you an alternative place to read or work on your laptop, without the confinement of a desk.
Spruce up the office with splashes of color. Color is the most expressive way to personalize a room. Since your room now has a glass desk, use strong accent colors such as red or blue to keep your creative energy flowing while at work. Add additional color with area rugs, some pictures, an accent pillow and a vase of flowers. Be careful to use the color sparingly, and not allow the room to become distracting with too many colors.
When laying out the furniture in your new office, place office desks near a window. This allows you to steal a few moments while working to look out the window. Consider how you will light the room. Even if there is an overhead light, add decorative lamps to make the room inviting and tie your pieces together. Make sure your desk has ample light, a nice desk lamp near you and a floor lamp near the chair and ottoman would light the room nicely and make it warm. Your home office is now ready for you to get some work done! With well designed office desks, brightly colored rugs, and accents like magazine racks, you will have an effective place to conduct business.
