Similarities and Differences between King charles I and Louis XVI?

Please name some things that were the same between charles I and Louis XVI and if you can some differences between the two. your help is much appreciated and 10 points to best answer.

Well, the biggest similarity between the two rulers is thy both lost their heads after a revolution in each other’s respective countries.

King Charles I of England was a devout believer in the Divine Right of Kings, and that the only power above that of the King was God. Charles made steps to abolish many of the constitutional laws governing the monarchy(especially the right to tax only with parliament’s consent). Of course, many people in England didn’t approve of this, and escalating tensions between the monarchists and the parliamentarians erupted into the English Civil War. The parliamentarians were ultimately triumphant and the British monarchy was officially abolished. King Charles was beheaded in January of 1649.

Of course, the new “Rupublican” regime to rule England under Lord Protector Oliver Cromwell turned out be even more dictatorial and unpopular than Charle’s reign. After Oliver Cromwell died, the British people invited Charles’ son, Charles II to rule Britain once more, on the condition he be a constitutional monarch. All sub-sequent monarchs to rule England have been constitutional monarchs.

Louis XVI is famous as the French King to loose his head by guillotine at the height of the French Revolution. The people of France revolted against the monarchy in July of 1789 for various reasons: widespread starvation, abuses committed by the nobility, unfair taxation, etc.

Originally, many people in France favoured keeping monarchy, only it would be a constitutuional monarchy similar to Great Britain’s. After the king attempted to flee France at the height of the Revolution though, any chance of a compromise by creating a constitutional monarchy was shot. Louis had squandered his chance by illustrating any reforms approved by him had not been made willingly. He was willing to defect and raise an army so as to take his kingdom back. This was a huge mistake.

Louis was guillotined on charges of treason and conspiring against the people of France in January 1793.

There are differences between the two rulers. Louis was far less an experienced ruler than Charles. Louis had become King when he was only 19, Charles when he was 26.

Also, Louis had the disadvantage of succeeding an unpopular ruler, his grandfather Louis XV. Louis XV is the French ruler now most credited for sending his kingdom into debt and squandering its finances on costly wars, not his successor, Louis XVI who received all the blame. Charles succeeded a very stable and secure kingdom from his father James I.

Both rulers have similarities and differences, but to sum up, both lost their heads from revolution. One because he was inexperienced and was blamed for the mistakes of his predecessor (Louis XVI). The other because he was too stubborn to recognize the will of his people (Charles I).

Hope this helped you.
Peace.
