How To Identify The Different Styles Of French Furniture
Whenever you picture a romantic bedroom, in almost every case the image you create in your mind comprises largely of French furniture, and it is certainly the case that when it comes to choosing exquisite, romantic and luxurious beds, French style beds definitely have a great deal to offer. Almost any room in the house can be given a real boost of character, elegance and style simply by purchasing a few select items of French furniture, tying it all together with some choice accessories and the right selection of fabrics.
French furniture often provides a great deal of inspiration when it comes to choosing other aspects of the decor. French style beds for example often incorporate fabric in the design, which can be matched or complemented when it comes to choosing scatter cushions, curtains and throws. The style of the bed will often dictate the style of the rest of the room, and so it will usually be best to consider a range of French style beds, and choosing the one which seems right for both you and your room.

Perhaps it could be argued that French styles in furniture design and interior decor have changed more dramatically over the years than any other style. This is largely due to the contrasting tastes and attitudes of the French kings, as well as the French Revolution, both of which lurched French design from the bold simple grandeur of baroque to the fanciful frivolity and gilt edged detail of rococo, to the extraordinarily contrasting austerity and Romanesque symmetry of the neo-Classical period which followed the French Revolution.
From the country villas and mansions the shabby chic style was born, and today modern, contemporary French design brings a combination of elements from various periods, in conjunction with some of the most striking fabric designs, often using large, bold designs such as stripes, with either black and white, black and cream, or a variety of bold primary colours.
Therefore when thinking about purchasing French furniture, and even considering French style beds, it will be essential to not only be aware of these many different French styles, but actively choosing which suits your room and your own personal taste.
Smaller rooms tend to suit contemporary French furniture, whereas middle sized rooms and those with plenty of natural lighting benefit from rococo or shabby chic. For much larger properties with plenty of room the baroque or even neo-Classical period can offer much inspiration, but whatever style of French furniture you choose, make sure you stick to one style throughout the decoration of the whole room for the proper effect.
