History of Port Colborne, ON – Mayor during 1940′s, 1950′s?
There was a mayor of the town of Port Colborne in the era of the 30′s to 50′s, likely 40′s whose name was “Raish Knoll”. He was a fiscally conservative mayor, running the town on a surplus every year. My problem is that my knowledge of him is entirely through oral history so here is my question: what is the correct spelling of his name?
His primary occupation was as a shoe manufacturer so if you’re still with me, here’s a second question: were there any shoe factories operating in that area at that time? If so, what were their names?

Yes there was, on the corner of Elm Street and Main Street. My grandparents worked there, it was called “Sunshine Shoe Factory” I believe.
