Trying to identify an antique piece of furniture-Double sided oak no kneehole?
I would have thought this was a desk but there is no kneehole. Has 4 small drawers, 2 large drawers and 1 large door. Drawers slide either way and the doors open to a to a 1 shelf area. Also has piece of wood that pulls out from under the top, kinda like an extension. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
I am not sure of the official name, but it sounds like a piece meant to assist with the serving and clearing of meals. If the drawers slide either way, then utinsels, plates, prepared dishes, etc., can be placed in one side, which faces the kitchen, and pulled out on the other side which faces the dining. These were also handy for those handling the serving when it came time to clear the table of one course and serve the next course. The shelf had many uses and the extension would be used for many purposes, such as cutting a pie.
