How do I clean – or at least improve – the animal skin drumhead on a traditional wooden drum?
I purchased a very nice traditional wooden drum that was apparently used as a side table. It looks like there is water damage and staining possibly caused by water spills and failure to use a coaster with drinks. I might not be able to return it to its original condition but how can I make it look better – even it out, etc?
Might be able restore it to former glory with saddle soap without damaging it. I would go to a music store and ask if they can recommend something more appropriate even before you try my suggestion. You do know that the drumhead can be restored to original purpose by replacing the head. If you plan to continue using it as a “side-table” upon restoration, get a cut to size circular top cover from a plastics or glass store.
