Why don’t criminals use 19th century antiques in crimes?
There’s no paper trail and the gun itself is so unexpected that no one would know how to go on about the case. PLUS there are no forensic experts from the 19th century or early 20th still alive who actually know much about these old early shells and lead balls.
I’d have to agree with the other answers.
Way too expensive! A real antique firearm in working condition would be very rare … and be worth a lot of money. The criminal could make more by selling the antique firearm than they could holding up convenience stores.
These weapons would be rare. In working order, very rare! How would a typical street criminal get their hands on one?
Not terribly accurate, hard to properly care for, and if the weapon is designed for black powder … hard to load quickly.
For these reasons + more that I can’t think of … the criminal would probably choose to use a modern firearm. Easy to obtain, not particularly expensive, accurate, easy to care for and use.
