More fish questions, this time, mainly about bettas!?
My first question would be this, is this hobby really this addictive? I have a 10 gallon tank, just bought a 29 gallon tank, and am already thinking of getting a betta tank for Christmas.
Second, would this tank be okay for 1 betta, probably a male? I know I’ll have to add a heater and all the tank decor, but would it be okay?

Last but not least, has anyone ordered from http://bettysplendens.com/articles/home.imp ? I really don’t want to support Walmart or Petco in how they treat their bettas. I think it’s wrong to keep them in a little plastic cup floating in their own waste. That is why I am looking into this breeder.
Anything else I should know about bettas? Thanks!
SOOOOO addictive. I started (before i knew anything) with two large vases with one betta in each. Then my boyfriend broke one vase while cleaning it so we bought not one, but TWO ten gallon tanks (because I felt that our other betta deserved a bigger house too). Then we moved on to a 33 gallon 6 months later and now we have a 130 gallon tank and are considering starting up the 33 gallon again lol! And I want to get a betta tank as well lol.
The tank you have selected is perfect for a betta once you put in a heater as they do need a steady temp to keep them in top shape. (can’t tell from the pic, but are there holes in the lid to allow for air circulation?)
I can’t say I’ve ordered from that betta breeder, but as an alternative, are there any small fish shops in your area? I have three that I frequent, one being petland which normally I wouldn’t recommend, but the head fish lady there is so wonderful and cares for all of the fish herself. Some of the bettas are kept in bowls for sale but the water is changed daily and she orders small amounts as to limit the time they have to spend in those bowls. Most of the time though, she puts the bettas into the show tanks. I’m sure there’s got to be at least one small lfs in your area. Best way to figure out is ask your pet provider what fish they have at home, their tank set up and how long they’ve had it.
finally, one thing about bettas is that they are almost always over fed! pay no attention to those pellet containers and the feeding instructions. They don’t need more than 3 to 4 pellets a day and even though it says it’s a complete and balanced diet, you’ve probably never seen a betta so excited to get a mosquito or a few freshly thawed bloodworms. Also, because their diet is so predominantly high in protein, give them a day off from food. or two. you can let them go up to 5 days without feeding and it’s only beneficial to them.. they tend to get backed up. If you can’t resist your bettas longing looks for food, give him a small piece of mushed up, shelled pea instead of his regular meal. This will also help cleanse his system.
Have fun!
