Junagarh Fort Tour – Bikaner
Bikaner is one of the popular tourist destinations of Rajasthan Tourism. Junagarh Fort is one of the most famous attractions of this place, which enthrall tourists during their Bikaner Tour. The Bikaner Fort also known as Junagarh Fort is an unconquerable fortress which has withstood the ravages of time and has remained unconquered.
Junagarh Fort is an impressive fort of Northern India famous for its magnificent architecture, design and decoration. This imposing fortress was built in1593 A.D by Raja Rai Singh, Army General of the Mughal Emperor Akbar. He was also the sixth ruler of the city of Bikaner, who ruled it from 1571 to 1612 AD. This fort is attacked several times but never been conquered. Only Kamaran, who was able to capture the fort but couldn’t even retain his hold for more than 24 hours.
This fort is a rare example of a medieval period monument surrounded by deep moats of 20 – 25 feet and an elevated wall of 14.5 feet wide and 40 feet in height. Inside the fort, there are 37 palaces, temples and pavilions, which are built in red sandstone. The palaces are famous for its exquisitely carved windows, balconies, towers and kiosks. Karan Mahal (Public Audience Hall):
It was built by Karan Singh in 1680 to mark his victory over the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. This palace is famous for design and decoration of stained glass windows, intricately carved balcony built in stone, wood fluted columns, inlaid polychrome glass and intricate mirror patterns decoration.
Phool Mahal (Flower Palace):
This is the oldest part of the palace which was built by king Raja Rai Singh of Bikaner.
Anup Mahal:
It is an administrative building known for its multistoried structure with ornate wooden ceilings with inlaid mirrors, Italian tiles, and fine latticework windows and balconies.
Chandra Mahal:
It is among the lavishly decorated room of this fort. This luxurious room was the royal bedroom famous for its gold plated deities and paintings inlaid with precious stones.
This is a magnificent fort known for its design, decorations and constructions. Scores of tourists visit this fort round the year to witness the glory of yesteryear. Some of the other known attractions of this fort are Ganga Mahal, Badal Mahal, Zenana quarters, Har Mandir and more.
