How to keep freezing temps out of a poorly insulated house?
I own a house in the woods, its a vacation house, but its old, Probably over 200 year old farmhouse. Its poorly inusulated (if at all). I want to keep some food up there to use as we visit during the year (canned goods etc.) but i was told freezeing temps would damage canned goods and make them unuseable. So if I insulated (heavily..R30 or better) a cupboard or cabinet would that keep the freezing temps out? or would i need some type of heat source.

You’re doomed. Nothing will work unless you have a power source to do something about the temperature. Your solution? MRE’s. (Meals Ready to Eat). That’s what you can store there. And camping food rations for high altitude trips. Go with the MRE’s. You’ll find some cheap all over the internet. If you go the canned goods route those are like grenades (they can be). Want corned beef hash all over the ceiling when you come up to visit? Oh well, guess you could always peel it off and eat it like beef jerky.
