Being Nosy Poll: What is the nicest piece of furniture in your home?
What is the nicest single piece of furniture you have in your home?
I have some older wood bookcases, but they aren’t in the best condition. The nicest is a secretary type desk I inherited from an aunt.
And you?
Thanks.
My 1939 World’s Fair table, worth ten thousand at least, which has brass legs and weighs a fricking ton. It is my dining table, but I keep the surface covered because it is a relic.
I also have a fiberglass lamp from the ’60s which is my dining light, a clock from the ’50s that has brass elements in it, and a 7-Up sign from the ’70s that is about six feet wide by four feet high that is my living room art piece, all Pop Art-styled. All of these are worth $5K at least, but the table and the sign are family heirlooms and thus I have no intent of selling them, except in a crisis.
(My taste in furniture is “eclectic mid-century,” so to speak. I have a few Danish Mod pieces, a sofa the base of which is antique wine barrels, a little writing desk from the ’20s, etc. My family has a lot of Victorian pieces as my mom’s family is Southern and ex-moneyed, but I don’t like Victoriana that much.)
