Biedermeier Style

Biedermeier Style
what is biedermeier style?

A style of furniture popularized in Austria and Germany at the end of the eighteenth century at the beginning of the Industrial Revolution. It is similar to the Federal Style in America and Regency Style in England. It was designed as a less expensive alternative for the middle class. The pieces were made to fit into smaller and less elaborate rooms. Pieces often had painted designs and applied carvings rather than detailed ornamentation and were made of local woods such as maple birch and fruitwoods. These woods would often be stained to imitate ebony or mahogany and satinwood.
