stripped floor,stained some and hate colour, ideas please?
hi,i sanded my lounge floor and stained a 3rd of it,2 coats “antique pine” i hate the colour so have decided not stain the rest till i decide what to do,anyway dont want to have to re hire the sander or have all the mess so any suggestions and what can be done,would prefer a lightish colour but not 2 DIY minded as 2 what you can/cant do.

This is not going to work for you. You ought to have tested a similar piece of wood somewhere or in a discreet place on the floor. Once you start you ought to have completed the entire floor because unless you are going a whole lot darker it is all going to look different shades unless it all receives the same treatment.
If by stain you mean wood dye which you apply with a brush and wipe off with a cloth to colour the wood (before varnishing) then you have to complete the whole floor, because it will have soaked deep into the wood beyond any reasonable amount you would take off with a sander. If it is wood dye then all you can do is trade tricks like try to lighten it with bleach – but you have to treat the whole floor the same.
If by stain you mean something that is supposed to be a finish coat aswell, then it depends how deeply it has soaked into the wood. Finishing stains are not usually as thick as dye so they don’t soak in so well. It would be easy to make a botch of this, with different shades showing where you treated one half of the floor differently. You could even sand the existing half and if it doesn’t all come up then you have the problem of two halves of the floor looking different as bare wood – which is a cock-up because nothing you do to it will even up the colour.
I personally would finish the floor and get a uniform base, even if you hate it. And next time don’t stop one third way through, alwways finish an entire coat without stopping, unless it’s floorboards.
